Molly’s “V” Girls, Five Weeks

In order, the puppies above are Violet, Vera, Veronica and Vanna.  They’re buzzing with five-week-old confidence and a few new accomplishments to match.  Below, they’re Vera, Veronica, Vanna and Violet.  It’s certainly difficult to identify the tri-color girls at first glance – I look for Violet’s blaze.

Veronica,

Vanna,

Vera,

and Violet.

The subject of their names and identifying them reminds me of interactions with the technicians at my vet’s office.  Established technicians know me well, but when there is a new one following her instructions, I’m always amused.  I wait in the exam room for their first check-up, usually with two soft carriers with two to three puppies in each.  She looks at her notes and asks “can you tell them apart?”  I  keep a straight face, and answer “yes, I can.”  Then “do they have names?” and of course they do.  As I bring each lovely puppy out in turn the technician can discover her funny, unique traits.  We always laugh, and she’s unlikely to ask me again if I can tell my puppies apart.

This week the “V”s enjoyed solid food and they’re unanimously in favor of it.  Molly began spending nights back in her familiar crate-bed with her stuffed pink dragon.  All the girls established their use of the piddle pad, leaving their cozy nest to “powder their noses”, and return to the dry comfort of a clean bed.  They make me proud and happy, and my husband laughs that I’m so easily delighted, but still.  Training is clearly a good thing.

And Vera’s nose pigment continues to develop…
