Kate’s Girls, Nine Weeks

The Z girls are nine-and-a-half weeks old this weekend.  And Saturday was a big day – we welcomed Zelda’s new owner from the east coast, and yes, Zelda is in her permanent home tonight.  Our new friend was extremely popular among our adult dogs, who showed off with wild tail-wagging, bellies up and bids for petting.  I think they all secretly wished for the privilege of leaving in her fashionable Sherpa bag.

This woman knew exactly how to handle puppies, and didn’t flinch when one of the Z girls launched a howling petition for attention.  We chatted awhile, and then she casually picked up the puppy when she was quiet again.  I accept first-time puppy owners as applicants.  I even accept those who have previously used punishment-based techniques if they’re willing to learn reward-based ones.  But it’s a joy when a family showers a puppy with loving attention for all behaviors we want to see more of and simply turns away from others.  Zelda is in capable hands!

Their flight home included engine trouble and an overnight delay.  Luckily Zelda knew her way around a piddle pad and had food and her favorite treat along.  Shipping a puppy is out of the question for me and always will be.  Her owner arrived home with her this morning and sent a photo of Zelda in her young master’s lap.  It’s the best reward of all.

Due to a decision we made this week, Zoe is available for adoption.  We anticipated she would go to the parents of good friends, but she’s emerged as a spunky, lively personality and not the more mellow temperament this couple needs.   She’s very smart and responsive.   She clearly would have been at center stage in the Malagasy royal court!  I’m looking for an owner who will revel in this girl’s sparkling, happy energy.

She’s a gorgeous, sweet puppy with a scissor bite.  Her coloring at this point looks like it will head toward the gray shades of her mother, Kate, and my other permanent tri-color girls Emma and Ellie.  Her temperament is Clancy’s, very friendly and attentive.  She’s petite.  It was a hard decision, but temperament is the heart of the dog, and I feel strongly about making matches with temperament as the highest priority.

Zoe sleeps through the night in a crate by our bed and she knows simple obedience commands.  I’ll consider interested applicants through email contact at pups@bluemountaincotons.com.
